Existing Tinderbox users will be used to visiting the Create/Rename dialog to change things like rules, colours, etc. This document explains the new locations for changing these settings.

TIP: if you use prototypes, before editing a note, consider whether the change should actually be made in the prototype and inherited from the latter.

1. Notes - v5 Create/Rename

This applies to all notes, including containers and separators. The listed functions are now moved in v6:

  1. Note title ($Name). in v6 edit the title displayed at the top of the text pane, the right pane of a v6 window. The latter always shows $Name, whereas the main view may show $DisplayName, if a $DisplayExpression is set. Use the Return key to complete the edit and exit or Escape to abandon the edit without change; clicking outside the box will also complete/commit the change.
  2. Color ($Color). Use the v6 Appearance Inspector, Interior tab, Color controls.
  3. Settings for separators, template and prototypes. Use the v6 Properties Inspector, Prototype tab. All the same v5 controls are now located on this tab.
  4. Key Attributes ($KeyAttributes). These are now set using the new pop-up control on the text pane (right pane of a v6 window). To open the pop-up click the '+' button to the right of the note title.
  5. Display Expression ($DisplayExpression). Use the v6 Text Inspector, Title tab. The Display Expression is set in the bottom box. Use the Return key to complete the edit and exit or Escape to abandon the edit without change; clicking outside the box will also complete/commit the change.
  6. OnAdd Action ($OnAdd). Use the v6 Action Inspector, Action tab. Use the Return key to complete the edit and exit or Escape to abandon the edit without change; clicking outside the box will also complete/commit the change. N.B. for agents (q.v.) this box sets $AgentAction, otherwise it is always $OnAdd.
  7. Rule ($Rule). Use the v6 Action Inspector, Rule tab. Use the Return key to complete the edit and exit or Escape to abandon the edit without change; clicking outside the box will also complete/commit the change.
  8. Sorting controls. Use the v6 Action Inspector, Sort tab. The same controls are offered as in v5.

Tip. The agent's query. action and priority setting can also be accessed from the agent section of the main listing on the Get Info pop-over (Cmd+Opt+I). When you add a new agent and finish naming it, this pop-over is opened automatically to help you configure the agent.

N.B. for smart adornments $OnAdd is used rather than $AgentAction, as the adornment only collects local map matches and doesn't create aliases of them like an agent.

4. Action code & Stamps

Pretty much every aspect of your Tinderbox document can be altered by directly manipulating the relevant system attribute. This can easily be done done via a Stamp (Document Inspector, Stamps tab).
